Making Homemade Crayons via Upcycling Broken Crayons
Posted by ChaosAndSilence
My kids and I decided to make some new crayons by taking broken ones and melting them in mini muffin tins. The process was fairly simple and took us about 30 minutes from start to finish….only because the kids got tired of peeling the paper off the crayons and I ended up doing most of it by myself.
Anyways, here’s our photo journey of making crayons!
Oven should be preheated @275 degrees.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes for mini muffin tin.
Note: Some of our crayons bits were a bit longer/different brand and needed a few extra minutes int he oven to completely melt. I suggest using same brand of crayons and try to keep the pieces the same size (if possible)
Melted Crayons need to fully cool before putting in the freezer(or they will crack and break).
* We set the timer for 25 minutes.
Put cooled crayons in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes to help them “set”.
When they are done, flip the pan over onto a tea towel (to cushion their fall!), most of them should fall out easily…although we had some that needed a bit of help.
Note: I think letting the pan return to room temperature may have solved that issue!

Finished crayons!
I think I want to get some molds and make some character/animal ones next time. 🙂
